TRU Bankers Hill - Phase I

Bankers Hill

Built in 1926 + 1938 by Louis John Gill. Redefined in 2021.

Located in the vibrant community of Bankers Hill, the three historic buildings on the city block between Hawthorne and Grape St. previously stood as the Sharp Rees Steely Medical Clinic. After being tasked with retrofitting over 30,000 square feet of medical offices into residential units, Phase 1 of this unique community transformed these two buildings into 46 Studio and One-bedroom apartments, a Penthouse Unit, Mostra Cafe, and a bustling Lobby and Courtyard area.

The overall renovation preserves the two distinct building architectural styles. The first, with its Spanish Eclectic style, features restored lighting fixtures and wrought iron details, mixed with bespoke touches like penny tile flooring, custom tile work and wood slat paneling throughout the Common areas. The second building, in the Art Deco style, features restored architectural columns and cornice work along the front facade. Original exposed concrete walls are seen throughout the interior of the building. Each new living space is thoughtfully designed with stylishly appointed premium finishes and modern amenities. Each of the buildings features custom mural artwork by Betty Larkin.
